Why I chose franchising:
In terms of starting a new business it gives me the flexibility of being my own boss and making my own decisions while having the reassurance of a tried and tested concept with back-up if needed.

What I did before taking up a franchise:
Self-employed for many years in various
sectors, most recently supplying specialist cleaning materials to car showrooms.

How I raised the finance:
I raised the finance for my Kwiklite franchise from my own resources.

The training and support I receive from my franchisor:
My wife and I had great support and encouragement from the start, with training in office management, administration and budgeting skills as well as technical support from other franchisees. Information sharing is good, meetings are productive and relevant and we feel totally comfortable picking up the telephone if we have a query.

The challenges I have faced:

The challenge is to show customers there is no catch! We offer a straightforward and efficient service with no hidden costs and once the customer realises that the repeat business just keeps coming.

My advice to someone thinking of buying their first franchise:
Take time to explore all the options and be honest about your own strengths and weaknesses. Spend time with the franchisor so you understand exactly what is expected of you and talk to other franchisees in the network to get the full picture.

My plans for the future:
As the first Kwiklite franchisee in Scotland I am exploring new ways of raising our profile with a view to extending my territory.
